Review of Bella Mafia

Bella Mafia (1997 TV Movie)
3/10
So Disappointing
27 September 2000
Lynda Laplante has written brilliant material in the past, especially the `Prime Suspect' series but with `Bella Mafia' she is ham-strung by the medium, i.e. U.S. TV which forbids the level of sex, violence and profanity that gives her best stuff its edge.

Attempts to reproduce elements of `The Godfather' and `Romeo & Juliet' are almost pathetic, Vanessa Redgrave is the only principal cast member to age as the generations pass, Nastassia Kinsky is beautiful throughout. In one unintentionally hilarious sequence Ms. Redgrave fires a gun in a packed courtroom, is arrested but quickly released – because she missed her target!

All too melodramatic.
