Shooting the Past (1999– )
3/10
Started well, ended dumb
13 January 2004
I saw this as a two parter. The first half was suspenseful,well-acted, and wonderful. I was sucked into a beguiling world of a collection of millions of photos being threatened with closure and, presumably, lost forever. I couldn't wait to see the second part. I was very disappointed when I did. The finely worked plotting was ruined by a hackneyed script, one note acting, and an out of control plot. Three main faults: the (unnecessary) switching narrative viewpoint from Oswald in the first part to Marilyn in the second (Oswald was a much more interesting character); the unbelievable plot-line 'twist' that was suppose to make me feel warm and gooey and in awe of history, but just left me feeling cheated (why were there so many photos of this one woman in the collection> who took them? how did they get there?); and the use of 'faked' old photos mixed in with real old photos, shown irritating over and over again as time fillers while violins soared.
