La Cenerentola is my favourite Rossini. It has an excellent libretto that manages to make you believe in the familiar characters from the Cinderella story. This is one of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's better opera films, maybe because it is an adaptation of a production at La Scala. As in all Ponnelle's film, the singers mime to their own recording, but at least they do it convincingly.
