Final Fantasy IX (2000 Video Game)
10/10
Technical excellence meets cinematic excellence.
6 July 2001
I borrowed Final Fantasy VII from a friend two years ago. I played it throughone time, gave it back to my friend, and bought the game for myself. I played it at least three times after that.

Then I played Final Fantasy VIII. I was wowed by the full motion videos I was watching my little gray plastic box produce.

Afterward I played Final Fantasy Anthology (a mix of FFV and FFVI). these two games truly were what the self proclaimed "veteran gamers" called "Classic Role-Playing Adventures."

Final Fantasy is now my favorite game series, always exceeding my expectations of what a great game can be. The FF series showed me all of what a game can do: Boast impressive visuals and music, give an epic story, feature a great battle system, and compelme from beginning to end. Hironobu Sakaguchi would have to do a lot to make a new FF game that once again sets the standards to what a game can be. His solution: Take all those great features listed above from previous FF games, and unite them all in one four-disc masterpiece called Final Fantasy IX.

FFIX only took me three weeks to finish, it was that good. It had great depth, amazing characters, a classic battle system, mind-boggling graphics and sound, and an overall great value. Each character had some sort of conflict that needed to be resolved within the 40-100 hours you spend trying to beat the game. This is all thanks to the brilliant writers and translators working for Square. The battle system, while not very original, is easy to use and a lot of fun to play with. If you have seen one frame of FFIX you have seen enough to know how amazing the game truly looks. with a fairly high replay value, you can funnel countless hours into playing this game.

Now FFIX is beaten, I have to wait until FF Chronicles (mix of FFIV and Chrono Trigger) and FFX. I wonder what I can do until I get them? I think I'll Play FFIX again!
