Great--Don't believe some of these reviewers

I was very surprised at how funny Johnny English is. This film does not sneer at secret agents. It is not really a parody. It reminds me of those "Road to" movies of Bob Hope in which comedy is weaved with intrigue. It is also like the Pink Panther series and perhaps most like Get Smart television series.

Austin Powers is totally different because Austin does not even try to be a story it is so far out. Austin is also much more a parody and is more an attack on things. Johnny English has a lot of style and actually has some very good action scenes too.

Johnny's side kick is the wise straight man here and adds stability to the film. The English girl is also very good and plays her part straight and reminds me of agent 99 in Get Smart. What helps this film is that every person acts as if this is a regular spy film and so when Johnny English does something funny it works so well.

There are many funny scenes and the audience was laughing very loudly at many scenes. Every time he tried to use his gun it fell apart. A funny scene was when he tried to give an elaborate description of the theft of the Crown Jewels. I would have given this film a 10 if it had not been for the 30 second scene in which Johnny was doused with sewage in a large pipe. Also the naked shot of a Cardinal's rear was unneeded. These gross out scenes only total about one minute of this entire movie. In general this film is not gross humor. It is just plain funny and fine for all ages. I gave it a 9. My 3 daughters loved it.

Also this film does not attack the English at all or parody them. It actually has quite a reverence for the Queen. This film is thumbs up.
