Adam Sandler is an odd ball. Sometimes his 'I'm lazy and stupid and damn proud of it,' attitude works; but with Mr. Deeds it's a bust and bore. The film starts out terrible, almost containing no laughs the entire first 35 minutes. Once we get to know some of the supporting characters, such as a foot-fetish butler played by the great John Turturro, the film shows some glimpses of hope; but those occasions are few and far between. For the most part, excluding a few laughs, this film is anything but classic Sandler comedy. For the record, I liked Little Nicky. This film shows the least effort of any recent Sandler comedy, if that is possible. Wait for cable.
