Warning: Spoilers
Adam Sandler has really done a great job with his recent string of movies and I think this is definitely one of the best so far. Anyone who has seen The Wedding Singer will know that Sandler and Drew Barrymore have undeniable chemistry on screen. In Fifty First Dates, Sandler plays Henry Roth, a complete player. He's practically a professional at one night stands with the tourists who visit native Hawaii. However, one day, after a boating accident, he meets lovely Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore) and feels that the first time he actually has a strong emotional connection with a woman. Though the next day Henry finds out the horrible truth about Lucy-after a car crash nearly a year before, she has lost ability to form new memories. Henry realizes that his entire life from then on will be devoted to meeting Lucy and making her fall in love with him every single day. This movie is funny, sweet and at times even thought-provoking. You will leave the theater feeling good with a huge smile on your face. It's filled with a healthy mix of crude, smart and witty humor and the latter is delivered hilariously by Rob Schneider. Schneider and Sandler make a great comic duo in the movie-Sandler's performance being very believable and subtle, while Schneider's being ridiculously funny and adding a touch of comedy. This movie does an excellent job of holding true to its comedy without compromising the seriousness of the heroine's situation. The intricate directing touches the viewer's heart when it portrays the emotional distress Lucy's family has to go through every single day. Barrymore handles her somewhat sensitive and sort of funny role perfectly, with feeling and heart-wrenching emotion and once again proves that she earned her recent star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I would definitely recommend this as a feel-good romantic comedy, in which the ending won't leave you disappointed. 7/10
