The 76th Annual Academy Awards (2004 TV Special)
5/10
Oops... haven't seen the big winner yet...
3 March 2004
I thought the first two episodes of LOTR were pretty boring, but I guess now I have to see Return of the King as well... Now, 11 oscars obviously doesn't mean anything, if you remember Citizen Kane won 1 and Titanic 11 as well... The intro of the 76th Oscars was pretty good, with Crystal's face in all the major movies this year, and man did Moore deserved to be crushed like that! Thankfully, almost nobody mentioned anything political this time, except for the documentary winner (Crystal was great when he said: wait till he get audited!) and Penn (mumbling something about WMD). This brings me to the biggest upset (for me anyway) of the night: the always overacting Penn winning Best Actor instead of the great Bill Murray... Murray didn't seem to be too pleased about it, and neither was I... that really brought me down. Best part was Adrien Brody who was up there to announce Best Actress, making him self ready to snog yet another beautiful woman... but in the end, he didn't really go for it... too bad Adrien :) Minor disappointment here in the Netherlands: Twin Sisters not winning best foreign language movie... if you have the chance to watch it somewhere anyway, go for it, I thought it was a beautiful movie. In short: Crystal was pretty funny as host, LOTR won too many awards, Murray was overlooked yet again, the speeches were really really boring but it was great to see Blake Edwards getting an honorary award... Man, I love The Great Race! 5/10.
