I was skeptical as to whether I'd like this movie. I'm not usually a fan of remakes as they usually pale in comparison to the originals. I was a huge fan of the Japanese original of this movie, so I wondered how this version would compare.
I'm delighted to say that even though the storyline is exactly the same, it was not boring to see another version of this film. Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere both do wonderful jobs convincing us they are ballroom dancers and Richard Gere's ability to laugh at himself is charming. The chemistry between them is believable and adds to the movie's appeal.
This is a light-hearted, fun movie; it is not an award winner or full of gut-wrenching emotion. But the reason to go to a movie is to be entertained and this one definitely does that. I saw it with three other people, one in her thirties, one in his fifties and one in her eighties and we all enjoyed it. We all agreed we liked it well enough to see it again and two of us would buy it.
