This series....

Some people may say that they dislike this series. Maybe because of the animation, the story line, or even some of the characters. But this series has to be seen before it can be properly judged.

The animation isn't at top quality because well, it is old. And several of the dub voices are highly annoying. But when these truly minuscule attributes are over looked, the series becomes the much loved series that it is.

Fushigi Yugi gives us a whole new world to fall in love with. Despite that most of the characters are "not real" to the heroine, Miaka, they still shine with human feelings of love, hate, regret, and joy. This series doesn't act as though the only thing that matters is whether or whether not Miaka full fills her duty as the Suzaku no Miko, but shows how even "book characters" can still learn how to mature and grow, and discover what it is to truly love someone.

This series has a knack to go from side-splitting humor, to tear jerking drama. You can easily find yourself among the characters, and grow deeply attached to them. These are not simple characters, they have a past, present and hopefully a future.

This is a well thought out series, and the art in the manga version is beautiful and unique. Although I do recommend the sub, the dub can be..iffy.

But never the less, this is not a waste of your time.
