This is a pretty entertaining disaster flick, that's not as bad as everyone says it is, with cool effects and really good performances!. All the characters are cool, and the story while typical is pretty good, plus Tommy Lee Jones is simply amazing in this!. Sure it's nowhere near to being the best Disaster flick, however I really enjoyed it for it was, plus it helps that all the characters are extremely likable. It does start off kinda dull, however it soon becomes fairly exciting and very entertaining, and I thought the Lava effects were really cool! plus Tommy Lee and Anne Heche had very good chemistry together. Don Cheadle was kind of wasted and seemed rather bored, however I did really enjoy the relationship between Jones and his daughter (Gaby Hoffmann)! plus it actually has some surprising moments as well. It's well made and written, and while it's never as exciting as it should be, it's still pretty entertaining in my book and does enough to keep you watching, plus one of my favorite moments in the film is when they go to rescue the people on the train that was pretty tense. This is a pretty entertaining disaster flick, that's not as bad as everyone says it is, with cool effects and really good performances I highly recommend it for a watch. The Direction is very good. Mick Jackson does a very good job here with good camera work, solid angles and keeping the film at a fast pace for the most part. The Acting is really good. Tommy Lee Jones is amazing as always and is amazing here, he is extremely likable, heroic, had very good chemistry with Anne Heche and Gaby Hoffmann, was intense just utterly convincing, and was perfect for the role! (Tommy Lee Rules!!!!). Anne Heche is hot, and did very well with what she had to do, and was surprisingly convincing as a scientist I liked her a lot. Gaby Hoffmann is good as the daughter she was likable, and didn't annoy me at all I liked her. Don Cheadle is OK here, but was kind of wasted and looked sort of bored a times, he still brought in some decent comic relief though I just wish they gave him more to do. Jacqueline Kim is good as the doc and played her part well. Keith David has barely anything to do as the Lt. but his presence was still appreciated. Rest of the cast do fine. Overall I highly recommend it for a watch. ***1/2 out of 5
