"I knew you were coming, so I baked a cake."

Warning: Spoilers
"Corny Casanovas" is a fairly violent Three Stooges short starring Shemp Howard, Larry Fine, and Moe Howard. As was unfortunately the case for many of the 1950s Stooge shorts directed by Jules White, the slapstick in this film is quite excessive and sometimes painful to watch.

Highlights from this particular short include the following (don't read any further if you haven't yet seen this film). While the Stooges are cleaning their apartment, Larry attempts to re-drape a couch by using a machine gun to fire tacks into the drape, but his plan backfires when he and Shemp tack Moe's rear end! Later, Moe gets his shaving cream mixed up with Shemp's shoe polish. And when the Stooges discover they all have the same chiseling girlfriend (Connie Cezon), some memorable bits follow, such as when Shemp accidentally wallops the girl in the face with a gigantic cake, or when he does his famous "fighter's dance," only to receive the first punch from Moe.

"Corny Casanovas" is not exactly the greatest Three Stooges film despite its multitude of violent gags. I do believe a lot of the violence at the end would have been spared had the Stooges only stopped to think about their girlfriend's lack of character. This short was remade several years later as "Rusty Romeos" (1957), with Joe Besser not only stepping in for Shemp but also greatly improving the closing gag; the Stooges' girlfriend ends up paying dearly for her shenanigan!
