8/10
A nice funny/dramatic/smooth going anime.

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know much about this series till 2006. And I recently finished seeing all 26 episodes that were made.

Fruits Basket revolves on a high school girl name Tohru Honda, a sweet kind orphan who lost her own mother in a car accident. After loosing her, she managed to live through it and remained cheerful and optimistic like she normally is. Tohru was offered to stay with her grandfather, but didn't wanted to be a burden for him while his place was being remodeled. So Tohru lives in a tent with her clothes, belongings, and a photo of her mom. The photo makes her feel less lonely as if she was still with her mother. So despite the hardships she's going through, Tohru continues to go to high school, like her mother wanted her to, and support herself at a maid's job at an office building.

One day she comes across a house which is the home of Yuki Sohma, who is the most popular guy at Tohru's school. She finds him to be very handsome, yet very mysterious. Yuki lives with his cousin Shigure Sohma(a novelist who likes women) and after earning that Tohru lives by herself in a tent they decide to offer her to live in their home, as their maid for cooking and cleaning(which neither of them are good at). Tohru is overwhelm to be living in a place to call home, but pretty soon she finds out that the Sohma family has a Zodiac curse that's been a secret not to tell to the public.

I really enjoy this Anime title, it was funny, well animated, and dramatic in some episodes(especially the final 2 episodes). Throughout the series, you'll learn a little more about the Sohma family's curse of the Zodiac. As well as Tohru who witnesses the sad tales of Yuki, Kyo, and their other relatives and friends. A lot of it is basically every day problems and things we face every day of our lives. Even though the story is fictional, with some Japanese slapstick mix to it. The characters and environments are believable and full of life.

I kept hoping the ending wouldn't end tragically. And without any spoilers, it does have a satisfying end to it. I haven't read the Manga it's based off of yet. Which is spin off of the first 8 volumes. But I'm hoping to pretty soon, because the original Manga, from what I've heard is longer and more back stories that were left out in the anime, including more about the mysterious head of the Sohma family Akito.

It may of lasted for only 26 episodes. But I guarantee that it's an Anime to cherish for generations. Highly recommended to those who like "slice of life"/"high school" related Animes. And a perfect choice to show to someone's girlfriend.
