Review of Dale

Dale (2007)

What an outstanding movie
6 September 2007
Certainly one of the greatest movies ever made about one of racing's most legendary figures. I loved the way the movie continually segued around Earnhardt's triumph at Daytona ... simply one of the best movies I've ever seen. A total success! I particularly enjoyed the comments by Darrell Waltrip ... and how he described his friendly, then awful, then almost-brotherly relationship with Earnhardt. I'm surprised, and a bit puzzled, why Michael Waltrip wasn't interviewed for the movie ... particularly given his unique relationship with Earnhardt. Watching Dale's race was chilling ... brought back all the memories of watching it unfold live ... and listening to Waltrip's haunting "what about Dale ..." after his exuberant celebration of Mikey's victory. Dale Earnhardt was simply the greatest. He triumphed at a time when NASCAR was truly the fan's sport ... and not the bogus, washed-up, commercial machine of today. It's a sad state when professional wrestling can be said to be more up-and-up than today's NASCAR circuit ... some of the things I've seen transpire over the past several years have all but driven me from the sport. In that sense, I'm glad Earnhardt died when he did ... so he didn't have to experience the shame of what his sport has become.
