Amusing spoof talking heads-style "making of" film
16 November 2007
I was quite taken aback by how many extra features there were on the DVD of Blades of Glory so, even though I didn't think the film was much more than amusing, I figured it would be rude not to check them out. When I started this "making of" featurette, I immediately assumed that it would be just what I took it to be – a load of promo interviews edited together into a pointless ten minute film of everyone complimenting each other and saying how great it all ways. I have very little time for such films and was going to give up but after a minute realised that what was being said was a nonsense.

I watched on and found that this slight p1ss take was not just Ferrell in one interview but was shared across all aspects of the film. As such it is actually quite refreshing to watch and probably bought itself some extra credit for me on the back of this. Like the main film, the material is consistently amusing even if it is not often hilarious. Ferrell's material here could have been better but he works it while Arnett, Fischer and Heder are more enjoyable and convincing.

Overall then, a simple "making of" promo piece but with an acerbic and irreverent twist to it that it makes it actually worth a look.
