Review of Dexter

Dexter: Dexter (2006)

Warning: Spoilers
This show, while having an excellent idea behind (in my mind a Bret Easton Ellis rip off, proved by the recurring Easton Ellis character names. See trivia page) has been dumbed down for TV.

The sets often remind me of something you would see on Veronica Mars. The colourful Miami setting fails to remind me of the tortured existence of a serial killer.

At times characters mention how meticulous Dexter is but he never really describes things in such a fashion. His dialog lacks the ramblings of an idiot savant serial killer, someone who barely controls his blood lust.

Although I think the show is generally not that bad, when measuring up Dexter and its inspiration, American Psycho it comes up second best. I have yet to read Darkly Dreaming Dexter but I'm sure I will come to the same conclusion.
