Lousy animation but a nice story

Gene Deitch was a director from the 50s and 60s that was famous for making cartoons cheaper--cheaper to make and incredibly cheap in quality. With UPA studios (Columbia Pictures) and MGM he made the studio very successful by making cartoons that frankly were horrid. The worst of these were some Tom & Jerry cartoons in the early 60s that are considered the lowest point in the franchise--perhaps even worse than those in the 1970s where they made Tom and Jerry FRIENDS!! So, from the onset, readers of this review need to understand that I hate Deitch. He and many other hacks were responsible for the ruination of classic MGM and Looney Toons cartoons, as these studios saw that the cheaper cartoons were more successful financially--even though most adults hated them and they were of dubious quality.

As for this cartoon, while it does have very simple animation and was directed by Deitch, I must admit that this wasn't 100% bad since the artwork was based on the art of Jules Feiffer--so such a simple style was actually appropriate. Plus the story was funny. It seems that the government screwed up and drafted a four year-old named "Munro" and, being the military, they didn't realize their mistake for the longest time. Initially, the military send HIM to see a psychiatrist! Only later did they recognize their mistake!
