Warning: Spoilers
This is an amazingly dull and uninspired foreign legion film starring Stan Laurel. While it's supposed to be a comedy, it isn't particularly funny and the film seems to possibly be missing some scenes--that, or the film was just made in a choppy manner.

The film begins with Stan wandering in a bar where the legionnaires are drinking. He ends up insulting the commander by blowing the foam from his beer all over him--in a scene where there is enough foam for six beers. It's not all that funny and in the next scene he's inexplicably now a legionnaire. Why and how this happened, I have no idea. Later, Stan is arrested (again, it's not too clear why) and in the end the day is saved very, very, very abruptly and you can't help but feel that this is a CliffNotes version--something must be missing. Oh, yeah,....the humor! Unless you are dead set on seeing every available film made by Stan Laurel before he was teamed with Oliver Hardy, this one is very skipable. However, if you must, it's fortunately very short and rest assured he made several exceptional solo films during this period--they are not all like UNDER TWO JAGS!
