Very Cool Movie
28 February 2010
So there have been a crap load of horror movies and vampire movies. The majority of them have been horrible. But this moderately budgeted vampire movie was the real deal. The team that put this together did an excellent job at creating a tense, taught and intelligent horror movie. It's sort of like the Gatica of horror movies.

It's a very cool film in a world where Vampires run the world and human beings are hunted and farmed for their blood. Attention to details is the thing that really helps allow you to suspend disbelief. Underground tunnels allow vampires to avoid sunlight. And During the day, the streets are relatively empty but those who are driving have specially outfitted cars with blacked out windows and multiple cameras and monitors. I really liked the movie because they didn't really take an easy way out. Becoming vampires was mostly a choice by the human race - immortality seems to be the answer to all the ailments that afflict people... but after some time, the food supply is running out and now there is something else that is affecting and afflicting the vampire population, and it's getting out of control.

There's a foreboding gloom over the movie that adds to the pressure and overall terror that awaits the remaining humans in hiding and the eventually starvation that awaits the vampire population. There is also a nice discussion as to what it means to be human and the price for reaching to far and tampering with what it is to be human.

This was a very refreshing look at the genre and definitely worth watching. My only real complaint is about the ending. As it builds and builds and builds you're completely invested and then it just ends! I was like WTF - it's as if they just ran out of money and/or film and just had to wrap it up. I'm sure that wasn't the case but it certainly felt like it. So if you haven't seen it, rent it with some confidence, turn out the lights, turn up the sound system and enjoy.
