iffy "true" story of Wrong Way Corrigan
17 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This flick is the perfect argument for why people should NOT star in films about their own life, if they have not had any acting experience. With his monotone voice, Corrigan stars in his own story about "accidentally" flying across the ocean to Ireland, but it would have been better if they had put Grady Sutton in the lead. Here, Sutton is the clothing salesman in one quick scene, but it would have been SO much more interesting if they had used him (or anyone else) as the lead. Viewers will also recognize Donal McBride (as ROY).. he had made TWO films with the Marx Brothers.. he always said "Jumpin Butterballs!" McBride plays a blustery, hardnosed boss here again. Since this is an RKO picture, and RKO was owned by Howard Hughes for a while, I wondered if that's why it was made at all, but this was made ten years before Hughes bought RKO. Several of the scenes and subplots are obviously embellished, but I guess Hollywood is still doing the same thing today. Funny scene where Butch (Paul Kelly) and Corrigan are riding two on a bicycle against a VERY fake backdrop. The budget for this thing must have been about $10.00. Directed by Leigh Jason. It's OK, but no big deal. Corrigan's acting is so bad, its distracting.
