Episode 17 introduces Mr. Lefkowitz
20 April 2010
Episode 17 begins with Jessica in jail, after Chief of Police Tinkler takes a few mug shots (clearly distracted by her impressive cleavage, he exclaims "that's lovely!"). Chester is forced to mortgage the house to make her bail, attorney Mr. Franklin (Howard Hesseman) deciding not to accept the case. Jessica is utterly fascinated by her hooker cellmate Babette (creator/producer Susan Harris, in her last on-screen appearance), and wonders how the woman can bed down with a total stranger: "kinda hard to charge a friend!" On her way out Babette recognizes Benson (both Benson and Chester), disguised as a lawyer since they wouldn't let him see Jessica otherwise. Jodie tells Mary that Burt says he can make himself invisible, purchasing 200 Bunsen burners (they were on sale!), then spending all his time in the cellar just before an unwelcome visit from the vengeful Ingrid Svenson. Danny finally meets Charles Lefkowitz (Sorrell Booke), Elaine's father, who insists that Danny still owes him a favor but does not yet tell him what it is. Congressman McCallum shows Eunice a blackmail note about their affair, demanding $50,000 or revealing photographs will be published.
