Chico & Rita (2010)

A Chico Chico Chic ...
22 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
As far as animation goes I can take or leave the entries that have appeared over the last few years but once I read that the soundtrack of Chico and Rita featured the likes of Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie, Theolonius Monk and Charly Parker I decided to check it out. It didn't disappoint; in addition to an outstanding soundtrack the animation itself was of an earlier age which complemented the time-frame (late forties, early fifties). There was even a 'well-made' screenplay thrown in for good measure, one that featured a beginning, a middle and an end. Okay, it was hackneyed to say the least - muso meets thrush, muso gets thrush, muso loses thrush - but still managed to hold the attention.
