6/10
short, sweet, sweary comedy!

Warning: Spoilers
Read the synopsis, Look at the cast and you'd be mistaken for thinking the martins is yet another down and out British dole comedy. Essentially it is, But in a word it's so much more. The martins has a lot going for it. The performances of each of the cast are superb, Lee Evans as the down on his luck jobless father of two gives a terrific performance as his desperation to please his family slides out of control. Kathy Burke needs no big up any who has seen 'nil by mouth' will know what im talking about. Talk about an underrated actress. Ray Winston has a loud pee ya pants cameo with a surprising occupation. And paddy 'dead man shoes' considine as an obnoxious editor. I Definitely went into this film with low - expectations it had been sat on my video shelf for months but it suppressed almost all of them. What this film brings is an easy 90 min ride though the tough and sometimes desperate measures that people will go thorough to please our family, We have all been there we just don't all go to the same lengths and that's where this film brings in the comedy. tying an old couple up in the basement to steal there holiday of a lifetime for £26 to the isle of man anyone. The 2nd half of the film brings in a more serious tone which deals with pregnancy, break-ups and family conflicts. All in all give this film a go no it's not British comedy film of year 2001. No if your not a fan of British films (comedy or not) this will not change that but what it will do is put a smile on ya face, and for me you can't ask for more than that. 3/5 stars.
