A dud
19 February 2011
I have no problem with concert movies. I love music, and try to embrace all genres, I love film, and I admire anybody who comes out and gives it a go. However, Jonas Brothers:The 3D Concert Experience is a dud in my view, I actually saw this out of curiosity being somewhat indifferent to them, and seeing this "film" has done very little to change that.

A major problem is the music. I like pop-rock, didn't used to, but it's growing on me, but the pop-rock tunes are completely forgettable as are a vast majority of the renditions. The melodies are rather unmemorable and the lyrics are on the whole uninspired. Even worse are the 3D effects. Like the Jonas Brothers, I am actually indifferent to 3D, there have been times when it's worked but I have seen too many films where it doesn't. The 3D here does not work. It is very lazy and unimaginative(water bouncing off a drum kit is the most imaginative it gets) and distracts rather than enhances.

Then there is the voice over comparison to the Beatles and David Cassidy. The voice over was unnecessary and irrelevant, and Cassidy also doesn't really add anything to the proceedings. The cinematography is odd sometimes and shoddy, while the lighting gets too much. I also hated the audience, I know it's for the atmosphere but seriously this audience is annoying and sometimes the screaming gets so loud in places the lyrics, singing and melodies are indecipherable.

The singing and performances don't do much to improve either. The Jonas Brothers actually sound bored, not only with their music but with themselves too and each other. Demi Levato's rendition of This is Me also has little effect, Levato is talented and she sings it nicely but the song itself is rather forgettable and slows the film down in my opinion. In fact, Taylor Swift actually out-shines them all, and she does do a decent job actually.

All in all, very poor and not really worth the watch or wait. 1/10 Bethany Cox
