If You See Through Robert's Eyes....
7 April 2011
Robert Montgomery starred in and directed this film, based on a Raymond Chandler story. I wish I could say better things about this, but it was stagy, unintentionally funny, and played over-the-top by most of the actors involved, especially Jayne Meadows. The experiment of the camera being Robert's eyes and allowing us to see only from his point of view only limits the viewer's involvement of the film and makes the viewer feel as if they're watching a film from 1910, with dated devices being used for the filming. Lastly, I admit that I never cared that much for Mr. Montgomery as an actor (he always seemed to come across as arrogant and like he thinks he's funny,) despite the fact he was in the rather enjoyable Hitchcock film, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and despite the fact I loved his daughter Elizabeth in Bewitched. So, take all this as you will. But, see for yourself if this lady floats or sinks!
