wanted to like it, but too many issues

Warning: Spoilers
I was really excited to see this movie, partly because I love Josh Radnor and because I thought the trailer looked promising. However, I had a lot of issues with this movie-so many that I created an IMDb account specifically to review this film. My biggest overall objection was probably the weakness of all female characters. Sam's best friend Annie sleeps with her ex-boyfriend and is hurt by him again, when clearly he is a total loser and she knows it and does it anyway. Then she goes and cries to Sam about how she only dates 29 year old men who act like 12 year olds. Similarly stupid, Mississippi stays with Sam after meeting him 2 days ago in a bar and realizing that (while out of good intentions) he has kidnapped a child. Yet she caves, still not being done with him after he misses not one but two of the shows he says he will come watch her sing at (the second time's excuse because he was in jail). That being said, the movie as a whole just isn't that good. The acting is mediocre, lines are corny (sadness be gone! we deserve to be loved. barf), and frankly the plot is pretty random. For example, Sam's childhood friend Mary Catherine and her boyfriend Charlie keep appearing throughout the movie, despite no interaction with Sam in the first 2/3 of the movie besides a quick hello at a party. The most painful scene was definitely at the end when Mississippi sings a song about being happy that makes it sound like she's a Disney princess on Broadway-in a bar, no less. Yeah, it was that bad. I will say that Rasheen is very cute and I like the idea of the movie, just not well executed.
