Way Too Short but Fun

Bloodlust: My Bloody Valentine and the Rise of the Slasher Film (2009)

*** (out of 4)

This 15-minute featurette is way too short but fans of the genre should still get a kick out of it. This extra can be found on the uncut, original version of MY BLOODY VALENTINE and it starts off talking about how popular the slasher genre was and then we get into the making of the original VALENTINE. From here we see the downfall of the genre, the rebirth with SCREAM and then the films leading up to the remake of the movie in question. At such a short running time no one should be coming into this thing expecting the definitive guide on slashers. What this basically is is just a good time down memory lane and I must admit that the film does a great job at making you want to go through your collection and watch all the movies that are discussed here. I must admit that I'm not sure why Lionsgate would gather up so many people from the original movie and then just use their comments in such a small way. It looks like we could have gotten more with them and then all the stuff promoting the remake could have been its own featurette. With that said, fans of the genre should still enjoy this and it was fun seeing the original members of VALENTINE '81.
