The Last Picture Show Re-Release Promo (1971)

*** (out of this)

This six-minute promo features director Peter Bogdanovich talking about THE LAST PICTURE SHOW as its about to be re-released into theaters with an extra scene added in. This promo was released after the first run of the movie so Bogdanovich is certainly talking very highly about it because obviously the thing had already became a hit with the critics and movie goers. The director talks about how happy he was with the way the film turned out and he especially calls out the actors saying they are the ones who made the film. There's also a clip of the deleted scene that they've added back in and the director talks about why he cut it and why he's now putting it back in. Bogdanovich also talks about the two film clips (LIFE WITH FATHER, RED RIVER) that he used in the picture and why he elected them. There's also talk about the rumor that he was a film critic before getting into the directors chair. There's certainly nothing ground-breaking about this promo but I think it does a good job at making people want to see the film if they hadn't already and the director also talks the film up so highly to where people would want to go back and see this added scene. There's certainly nothing spectacular here but fans should enjoy seeing it.
