A horde of walkers hear Carl's gunshot and they head to the farm. Rick and Carl run to the barn and the survivors get the weapons to defend the house. Rick and Carl burn down the barn and Jimmy drives the camping bus to the back of the barn to rescue Rick and Carl, but he is eaten alive by the walkers. Patricia is also caught by the walkers and Andrea saves Carol but is presumed dead and left behind. The rest of the group flees in a truck with Rick, Carl and Hershel; another truck with T-Dog, Beth and Lori; a car with Glenn and Maggie; and a motorcycle with Daryl and Carol.
When Rick's truck runs out gas, they decide to stop and camp during the night. Rick discloses to the group that Dr. Edwin Jenner, from the CDC, told him that they are all infected. Further he also tells what happened to Shane. Meanwhile Andrea is saved by a mysterious character.
"Beside the Dying Fire" could have been the best episode of the Second Season of The Walking Dead. The massive attack of walkers to the farm is breathtaking and I have startled at least twice during the chaotic situation. The plot point with the revelation of Rick that they are all infected is another great moment in this show. The mysterious guy that saves Andrea is intriguing.
Unfortunately, the reaction of Lori is ridiculous and incoherent since she had poisoned Rick telling that Shane was a dangerous man and now that her husband has taken an attitude, she reacts that way. The other weak point in this episode is when Rick tells to Lori that he killed Shane without any care with the words. What reaction would he expect telling the survivors the way he did that they are all infected and he killed Shane? Now only in October we will see the continuation of this engaging story. My vote is nine.
