Revolution (2012–2014)
7/10
Lots of potential, we'll see if they use it.

Warning: Spoilers
Ignoring the fact that a lot of the science doesn't make too much sense, the concept behind the show is a great one. "Revolution" tries to differentiate itself from others in the post-apocalyptic genre by taking place 15 years after the blackout that shut off all of the power across the world. The weakness in this move is that the characters have seemingly adjusted to life without power, and a kind of equilibrium has been reached. We do get some looks at the period after the blackout through flashbacks, some of which are the show's best moments.

As far as the writing goes - well it's predictable at best. After watching four episodes, we are starting to see some more depth to the characters rather than the shallow, flat characters introduced in the first episode. The motivations for the characters' actions are not well explained, and in some cases appear just to advance the plot.

And the acting - There is an interesting mix for the cast on this show. For example, Elizabeth Mitchell is great as always playing Rachel (especially her performance in episode 4). Also, Maggie's character is portrayed skillfully, adding far more depth than other characters. Miles is an interesting character, although the same character has been exploited many times before (Han Solo?). Captain Neville also makes all of the scenes with the militia although his character could be written out better.

Charlie as the main character, she could be a lot better. Her character is rather uninteresting - an odd mix of Katniss Everdeen and a sad abandoned child. I do think her character has potential to go as the story progresses, as long as the writers are not afraid to take away some of her (almost annoying) strict morals that cost the group.

Overall, the show has a lot of potential, and this was most exploited in episode 4. I think if the writers can make the story a little more believable, and give some more motivation for the villains (I like being evil isn't very intriguing), this show can be great. I plan on holding out a few more episodes to see where they take the story!
