The tag line on the American poster describes this film to be "The Best Action Film in Decades." I won't go as far as being THE BEST, but I will agree that the action scenes blew me away! The choreography during these fights were absolutely incredible to watch. Another thing that worked for me was the camera work and how visible each sequences were. The main problem with films lately is the usage of shaky camera movement that does cause me to loose interest in the action scenes. The action scenes captured every movement easily and followed each bone crunching punches and kicks and every kill to leave you jaw dropped. Each fight scenes were memorable, amazing and it is hard to lose interest as the fights go into full maximum drive.
Despite the incredible choreography and the jaw dropping action sequences, there were certain gripes within the film that have caused me to drop the grade. My main concern within this movie is that the pacing goes to a complete halt during the segments of dialogue and the character developments. It really felt like driving a car at full maximum speed and coming to a complete stop because of a traffic light. I'm not fully saying that it's not relevant and was unnecessary, but because of the adrenaline paced action sequences, the moments of dialogue really caused the pacing to drop. Another flaw that I found was the lack of details toward the main character. You know that he has a pregnant wife, a rookie on the SWAT team, can kick some serious butt and has a brother who left home, but that is all you will ever know about the character. The film mentions for a brief moment about the family issues, but there is nothing much more that was mentioned throughout the film. Probably a possible sequel will explain about certain details that were left out in this film; however, this is the only gripe that I carry in the film.
