A inspiring German classic,not because of it's religious theme,but,It's a better Heimat type picture than most and because it show cases one of the best character actresses of Austria,at the time Anne Rosar.She has a bigger role than most other films she did before or during the war .She is teamed up again with Kurt Meisel, still playing a rotten character,her nephew. It starts when she works for this well to do upper middle class Hiemat Family,in their big Hiemat house and estate.She plays the cook.Fred Liewher plays Leopold Argan The Head of the house and Vilma Degischer as his wife,who was in the Sissy series.A young Christine Kaufman plays the daughter Doris.I don't know who the actor is who plays the blond son ,was,but,Lotte Lang convinces Her sister ,Annie, that her fat undeserving son aspires to be a priest.So all through the years she works and scrimps to send money to help her nephew in the priest hood .This is a mistake.Tragedy happens the next day,after Vilmas birthday,when her son drops dead out doors,oh I forgot, Victor De Kowa plays Theo,but I don't know whether he related to Vilma as her brother or Fred as his or Victor is just a friend,to go back,Annie gets picture of her nephew dress up in a pries out fit,convincing her that he's full fledged priest.A letter has convince her that he's started a parish.So she quits her job and goes to her nephews.Thinking that the church she's seeing and the priest is her nephew,she goes into his home thinking that that's he nephew ,until he realizes the mistake she made.Through the towns people, she discovered that her real nephew has spend the money for other reason and is now an astrologer.This has angered her.Now in this film Victor and Fred shows their age,but, Kurt still locks young ,due to possibly hair touching.In spite of this she still loans him money.Feeling bad about it,she goes to church ,only to discover that their offering a visit to Rome to see the pope tour.She decide to join it may be god would forgive what she did through visiting the pope.The tour is headed by Rudolph Vogel.Other members is Jane Tilden,who was in the blue Fox,in 1938,A priest played by Hans Holt,who is also made up to look younger than he was.He and Annie become friends during the tour.Now in the meeting of the pope,the actual meeting was shot in the film,with the real pope at the time.It turns out her ex employers where also in Rome Christine ,Vilma and Dekowa ,without Fred.Eventually after a meeting with the pope she get ill and dies peacefully.although this film was shot in 1958 and non of the new movie technology ,of the time was being employed in this film 08/20/13
