. . . even by the fairly high standards of writer\director\producer Laurent Bouzereau specifically and Universal Studios DVD\television "featurettes" in general. Including nearly the proverbial kitchen sink (for example, Syd Dutton, a friend of director Alfred Hitchcock's matte painter for THE BIRDS, make-up artist Howard Smit, and a biographer of BIRDS composer Bernard Herrmann, namely Steven C. Smith), this nearly 80-minute feature-length package also includes a generous selection of clips from THE BIRDS to illustrate its points. Supplemented on Universal's 2000 release of the 14-movie Hitchcock "Masterpiece" DVD set with a wealth of other features, including storyboards for an alternate ending, production notes, production photographs, contemporary promotions--including those by "Hitch" himself, this really is about ALL anyone needs to know about THE BIRDS.
