Cop on the prowl

Lustig and Cohen do what they do best, a quickly written script, shot in the streets of New York, probably without the right licences and get whatever actor is available usually the B movie kind.

It's an intriguing, low budget slasher film with a big man dressed as a cop killing all sorts of innocent people in gruesome ways. We never see his face (Robert Z'Dar) until the end of the film.

Bruce Campbell is the prime suspect as the slasher cop, although it is obvious looking at him he would not be able to kill these people in brutal ways.

It is left to Tom Atkins first and later Campbell and his cop girlfriend Laurene Landon to find the real culprit.

This is an unpretentious film, some nasty deaths, some blood, some ropey acting and dialogue, but atmospheric enough.

Landon is glamorous enough but Campbell is well toned down here from his performances from the Evil Dead films, maybe some crazy wit from him would have helped.
