Supernatural: Hell House (2006)
Season 1, Episode 17

I LOVE Supernatural but this is NOT Richardson, TX.

Warning: Spoilers
In the present day, at least.

Maybe 50 years ago.

The episode is great, (see others for better reviews of it), but Richardson is a full-blown suburb of Dallas now.

There simply are no woods or old farmhouses anymore, I'm sorry.

Richardson was a separate town at one time, just like all of the other towns around Dallas, (and I'm sure, towns all over the U.S.), but the thought of there being anything but concrete, town-homes and apartment complexes is laughable, even when the episode was filmed. And even when they say "a few hours north of Richardson", you're not even in Richardson anymore.

They should have said "Mineola" or "Hawkins", plenty of woods and haunted old farmhouses they could have went with.

(I'm just now catching up on old episodes and had to laugh, sorry)

It's a great episode, a nice respite from the heavy stuff before, but it's like they just picked a random location from a hat.

Having said all of this, the over-arching idea that maybe many of the monsters that they have been hunting were just, after all, the result of people believing in them is perfect and archetypal.

How many monsters DO we create just by being scared of the idea of them?

With fear being the strongest emotion right up there with love, hate, jealousy and anger, how do we really know that the monsters we fear...

...are not really just ourselves?
