Still remembered as one of best romantic films
18 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This was first film of Sooraj Bharjatya, Salman Khan as a lead, Bhagyashree and Laxmikant Berde's first Hindi film. The film is still remembered as one of the famous love stories. This is perhaps his only film where there are villain and some action too afterall it was a 80s film The film does have cherishable romantic moments between Salman and Bhagyashree, at times it is a bit cheesy, corny but bollywood loves it like that. There is also a funny smoking scene between Salman and Laxmikant. There are outdated scenes(in today's view) of a boy and girl cannot be friends. It has the typical rich vs poor guy and similar aspects from BOBBY where too Rishi and Dimple had similar problems but the treatment is nice. The second half shifts to Salman going to get his love in Alok Nath's poor village and the end is typical 80s style, we also have pigeons who seeks revenge, Sooraj Bharjatya always had fascination with Animals, be it dog tuffy in HAHK or the animated parrot in the worst MPKDH.

Direction by Sooraj Bharjatya is good Music by Ram Laxman is superb though 2 songs are copied, the title song is copied from I just called to Say I Love You and Mere Rang mein(has an interlude copied from Swedish rock band Europe's 1986 single, "The Final Countdown" and theme from Love Story, "Where Do I Begin") yet the songs are soothing and memorable, be it Kabootar Jaa Jaa, Mere Rang Mein, Aaya Mausam, SP Balsubraniam became the voice for Salman in 90s.

Salman Khan after his disastrous small role with a dubbed voice in Biwi Ho To Aisi, made a debut as a lead, he was very innocent, raw in dramatics, dialogue delivery was odd yet he does a good job for a debutante, he is likable. Bhagyashree is good too sadly her career was shortlived. Laxmikant Berde makes a good supporting act and adds funny moments. Amongst other regulars, Alok Nath is good, Rajeev Verma is superb Ajit Vachnani leaves a mark in his negative role, Mohinish Behl is good in a villain role, he became a regular but played positive roles in HAHK and HSSH.Reema Lagoo is as usual. Deep Dhillon is okay, Harish Patel leaves a mark,Dilip Joshi made his debut with this film, rest are okay.
