Hugely enjoyable "Making of"
12 May 2015
Most "Making Of's" are interviews with the cast telling you what the film is about and how great the film is going to be and how great everyone is to work with. You just roll your eyes.

This featurette avoids that.

We get a focus on the making of each location and how those scenes were done.

We learn about the production design on each set and we see the make up effects on each character.

Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Michael Rooker all said that their make up took 4 hours to apply and Dave had to stand and lean on a post.

Whereas most actors and actress have prosthetics put on them to make them look old, fat or into a monster, here, it's just used for skin colour, rather than putting face paint all over them.

"It feels like real skin," they say.

Sean Gunn, James Gunn's brother stood in for Rocket. He had a blue leotard on and another actor in blue leotard on stilts stood in for Groot.

Between our visits to each planet, we get 8 bit NES cut scenes of the characters playing through a level of each world and bumping into James Gunn. They're quite cool.

Overall, one of the best "Making of's" I've seen and it avoids the annoying praising clichés that most "Making of's" fall into.

We need more focus on the making of the movie rather than the cast and crew praising each other.
