The Martian (2015)
8/10
Worth it.

Warning: Spoilers
Took a flyer on this movie because I hadn't really heard the hype and had only seen one trailer, but I thought it looked good so I bought a ticket and went in.

Long story short, it WAS good.

Visuals were STUNNING with the exception of one scene where Mark Watney is being rescued, but Mars looks 100% real and is very believable. The visuals were on par if not better than Ridley's other film, Prometheus, which I thought was also a great movie. Ridley Scott knows how space needs to look, or at least how it should look on a movie screen. I will be shocked if this doesn't win some kind of design awards.

Lead acting was excellent by Matt Damon (as per usual), the crew was fair to midland with Michael Pena being the highlight, Jeff Daniels was a little too wooden (complete opposite of Dumb and Dumber haha), Chiwetel Ejiofor was fantastic in his role, and the rest of the cast got the job done.

The only laughable part of this movie is that the Chinese would actually try to help one of our stranded astronauts...That's how you know this is fiction. Either way, I enjoyed this quite a bit more than Interstellar, thought it was a bit better than Gravity, and is in a class of its own as far as Mars films go!

The movie has a light tone overall full of humor, but there are definitely some tense moments that will have you on the edge of your seat.

This was actually worth seeing in the theater for the visuals, highly recommend it.
