American Horror Story: Checking In (2015)
Season 5, Episode 1
9/10
A Tomb of Grandeur, Bloody and Nightmarish
8 October 2015
American Horror Story returns strongly with a more claustrophobic environment of narrow hallways and mysteries behind every door. The theme this season appears to revolve around vices and addiction, parallels between sex and hypodermic needles, and a mysterious killer punishing those that do not follow the ten commandments.

"Checking In," gives the impression of a lucid dream, with everything being strange and otherworldly within the walls of the beautiful Hotel Cortez, and with evil spilling out its ornate doors into the ordinary world around. This premiere episode acts as an introduction to the world and its inhabitants, as well as providing plenty of scares that will leave you with intrigue.

Containing some excellent and also obvious music choice, some of the most disturbing imagery and scenes in the series, the Hotel Cortez certainly gives reason to return to uncover its many mysteries.
