6/10
Not bad given the circumstances
25 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It looks like by 2011, when "Thriller Night" came out, the "Shrek" franchise was already pretty much over. However, that did not keep them to make this 6-minute Halloween special here. It's clearly influenced by the famous Michael Jackson song, and pretty much everybody (except Shrek) turn into zombies in this one. There is lots of music and dancing involved, but in the end we find our that reality can sometimes be even harsher than a dream. The director and writer is Gary Trousdale again, who made several Shrek-related short films, but is mostly known for directing "Beauty and the Beast" over 20 years ago. That was probably also when he peaked. Still, this little movie here is not bad, especially given the fact that none of the original voice actors are in here, or at least not for the major characters. Good watch for fans of the franchise.
