Bad unfunny propaganda movie
10 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
"Beforel Orel: Trust" is a 25-minute animated short film directed by Duke Johnson and written by Dino Stamatopoulos. Johnson has made Anomalisa this year, which is one of the most talked-about animated films with dark horse chances at the Oscars. However, this film from 3 years ago is truly disappointing. First of all, the animation isn't great. I also don't like the style, but that is just personal preference. However, from the way it looks, it could also be a 1990s movie. Apart from that, the characters are not too interesting, pretty much impossible to identify with and as a consequence, the story isn't memorable either. But the worst thing about this little movie here is the anti-God propaganda. The problem is not that the boy is questioning religion, that is perfectly fine, but all the religious people are shown as stupid, one-dimensional dumbnuts who cannot hold a conversation or an argument with a 10-year-old. I have no idea what the makers were thinking, but this was truly embarrassing to watch. Not recommended. I hope this was mostly Stamatopoulos' fault and Johnson's next works will not be affected as he seems to be on the verge of breakthrough.
