Another fantastic little short from Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy. From an opening sequence where the boys inadvertently wreck an open-air concert, to the classic almost surreal pants-ripping and shin-kicking finale, this is a comic delight.
Stan and Ollie's musicianship could do with a bit of practice! The middle section follows their being fired from the band, booted out of their lodgings (after Hardy hilariously gets more in his soup than he bargained for) and deciding to busk on their own.
But that end sequence is one of the great scenes of silent comedy, which begins with Stan and Ollie shinning each other, and ends with the entire street embroiled in an all out pants ripping war. I had tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks. Not only is this extremely funny it's extremely clever and the timing is pure poetry.
The world has been a better place for the presence of Laurel and Hardy. How I wish they were still gracing it today.
