Depressing, ridiculous ending
11 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I think John Lynch (and Martin Compston etc.) is a (/are) great actor(s), and I always enjoy watching films with him, but this one is just bull... The movie is brutal and boring and no fun to watch up to the ridiculous coincidence at the end - but, hey, our "wise friend" Ahmed explains it: it is not a coincidence (no, it's the illogical fantasy of the author/) "it had to/somebody ((a sadistic god/cruel fate?)) wanted it to happen", oh sure, because it makes so much sense (massive spoiler alert) that Jack beats Paul to pulp, possibly crippling him for death and giving himself even more to regret - this is obviously much better than meeting on the terms of an organized meet as a victim-offender mediation as offered by victim organizations etc. and just talk - the movie's ending does indeed make much more sense (watch out, Ahmed: irony!), and if any male viewers are wishing to tell me now that it is necessary for men to sort out things with their fists: don't, because this makes it even worse and more depressing. The only wisdom Ahmed could have offered for such an ending is: God is a sadist, fate cruel and all of mankind are brutish beasts and beyond saving... I don't have to watch the movie a second time.
