Weird mix of kid's film and spaghetti western
3 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
SHERIFF OF ROCK SPRINGS is a very odd addition to the spaghetti western genre. It feels very much as if somebody decided to make a western suitable for kids with a largely child cast of tearaways battling the usual evil gunslingers and the like. Despite the child-friendly plotting, this is still a violent film with the requisite peril and violent shoot-outs, so I'm not really sure of the target market.

The film features Richard Harrison as the titular character but he seems to be on autopilot in this one. He has little screen time and his character doesn't seem to do much other than hang around. At least Donald O'Brien shows up as a typical sneering bad guy. The plot is very light and padded out endlessly, involving the hunt for an escaped criminal who takes a little girl hostage and is subsequently pursued by the heroes. It's occasionally inane and doesn't really satisfy as a whole.
