The good moments don't really justify the lengths

Warning: Spoilers
"Romance with a Double Bass" is a British 40-minut live action short film in the English language from 1974, so this one is already over 4 decades old. It is based on an original short story by the late Anton Chekhov and one of the guys who adapted this one is Robert Young, also the director of this little movie. Another writer here would be John Cleese, who also plays the male protagonist. His character is a musician who ends up meeting the naked princess in a lake near the castle and the result is that he tries to get her safely back to the castle in his bass case. This also made for some good laughs in an orchestra scene in the second half of the film, but the scenes at both core location (outside/inside) go on for way too long and this eventually breaks the movie. Though I am not the greatest Monty Python fan at all, I kinda liked Cleese here. Anyway, this Chekhov story was told in other films in under 10 minutes, so 25 minutes and better focus could really have made a difference here. The way it actually turned out I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.
