Pretty Unique Perspective

A fellow reviewer stated Tannbach's "almost 300 minutes have nothing worth watching that hasn't been done before and frequently better." I would like to encourage this individual to be a little more specific as I have never seen anything remotely close.

I thought this film had a very unique setting and premise … basically the development of the Inner German Border and the vastly conflicting politics of the day. Imagine the vacuum created by the defeat of Nazis Germany … imagine the aspirations of the Russians (land grab and retribution) … imagine the slowly dawning desperation of the Germans who found themselves with the Russian Occupation Zone. These were pretty fascinating times.

As for the film itself … I thought it was quite good! The cast was very solid and believable and I especially enjoyed the cinematography and locations. The town where this was filmed was idyllic!

Speaking of the town … although Tannbach is a fictional locale there is a town called Modlareuth that was indeed split down the middle … surely this story of this fascinating place factored into the writing of this script.

I enjoyed this film and learned a few things from it (like Russians using Buchenwald). More so it got me to think about things … thus said it was time well spent.
