You're left with questions which might lead to a sequel, but it's not bad. Some of the acting is questionable, but most of the main characters do a decent job, especially for kids.
The story line isn't that uncommon, thematically, but there are some good twists and character building moments which a lot of movies lack. I haven't read the book, so I don't know how well it was represented, but It was a decently presented story. It could have been developed, I probably would have expanded on it a bit, but I was entertained by it.
It's a bit Hollywood-esque, not as realistic as I would like, but I think with a better budget it could have been nicely developed: both graphically and story-wise. I'd like to see what this director could do with more support.
