Young Sheldon (2017–2024)
7/10
It has improved.
26 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
And the next episode introduces the legend Annie Potts as the 'cool' Mee-maw. Tonight there were smile moments, laughter a few times and a good theme. "Making Friends" I hope the young Vietnam character is recurring.

I felt more for the characters this episode. Sheldon's attempt to make friends was very funny and human.

The FBI moment was classic!!!

Debut Review:

Right now, it's a non-story.

We know too much about Sheldon because of 10 seasons of The Big Bang. For example we know he learned nothing in his youth about navigating society. Most of his learned lessons come after season one therefore where can this story line go? Week after week a sitcom explores and develops its main character through new experiences. They explore. They get burned. They learn. But this sitcom is forced to sit on its hands because "fish out water" stories usually end with, "Oh, I didn't know that" ending on a warm and fuzzy note. How can the creative team do that considering what we already know. We know his father is due to die. That will change everything. I have heard the awesome Annie Potts is cast as MeeMaw. What a great bit of casting however the "wise sage" character usually teaches the youthfulprotagonist a lesson per episode.

How can he learn things and still connect the dots to the first season of Big Bang. What? Does he learn lessons in his youth only to forget them as an adult? I don't think so, not with his endemic memory. So where do we go from here? On personal note everything looks wonderful, the casting is great and there is some humor. Reduce the fathers and brothers role, pump up Missy and Mom. Lastly find humor in the 'attempts' of those around Sheldon to teach him something. It would make sense that he is just too stubborn to learn 'that lesson' at this point in his young life.
