A lot of negative reviews here, from people who were expecting the second coming of "King of Queens". That's a very high bar. There are no comedies on TV today that rise to "King of Queens" caliber. There are some funny shows though. "The Middle", "Modern Family", "American Housewife", and yes, "Kevin can Wait", are all solid, in a TV landscape where most "sitcoms" are not funny at all.

Take Matt LeBlanc's profoundly unfunny "Man with a Plan". I was so looking forward to it last year, and gave it 2½ episodes, but it was unwatchable. It's not easy to make great, or even good, comedy.

Kind of like "Everybody Loves Raymond", there are younger kids on this show, but they are rarely shown, and aren't really part of the comedy. The show focuses on the 4-way dynamic between Kevin and his wife, daughter, and her fiancé. Now, of course the wife is offhandedly dead, the show is a year in the future, and Leah Remini is part of the cast. The show has lost the dynamic that made it good, with was the Kevin's bumbling relationship with his wife. Not sure that being a widower is funny.

This move was like throwing a hail Mary when it's first and 10 from your own 30. It MIGHT work, but you probably would have been better just continuing to drive. If I had written this review last year, I probably would have given it an 8 or 9.
