A bizarre case for Wexford
15 January 2018
Wexford takes on a highly unusual case of kidnapping, young mum Pippa Bond's baby is taken from the King's Markham High Street, and another baby is substituted.

Transmitted as a Christmas special, it's an enjoyable story, quite light in many ways, more a domestic story then the more usual story of murder and intrigue. I wonder if that was the reasoning for it to be transmitted at Christmas, a happy ending etc. I find it starts well and becomes a little slow as it progresses. Jane Horrocks is excellent here, the moment where she realises her baby is gone is dramatic and well acted. Mike's domestic life was never something I liked about the show, and it's particularly uninspiring here.

It's funny when you see the 1980's recreated in modern day dramas, it's always so chicane stylish, but growing up in it, it's not how I recall it, this perfectly shows the true reality of that decade, perhaps a little on the drab side.

I am so happy that parts of the Wexford series have had a German dvd release, such a shame it's taken so many years to get to see this series again.
